Alcohol use disorder is the most common addiction in the United States — and one of the most underestimated. It doesn't always look dramatic. It often looks like someone still functioning, still showing up, while something underneath quietly falls apart. We treat it seriously, because it is serious.
Alcohol use disorder is the most socially embedded addiction there is, which is part of what makes it so hard to recognize. The line between drinking too much and drinking addictively blurs slowly, over months or years, until the person on the other side of it can barely remember when it changed. Functioning alcoholism is real — and functioning doesn't mean fine.
What makes alcohol use disorder particularly dangerous is withdrawal. Stopping heavy, long-term drinking without medical supervision can cause seizures, cardiac complications, and in serious cases, death. If someone has been drinking heavily every day for an extended period, cold-turkey stopping is not safe. Medical detox exists specifically for this, and it's the right first step before treatment at Ebb Tide.
Alcohol withdrawal can be medically serious. For anyone with daily heavy drinking — especially over a long period — stopping without supervision is not safe. Ebb Tide does not provide detox. Clients who need it complete a medically supervised detox first, then step into our PHP, IOP, or outpatient programs. We work directly with Florida detox facilities and can help coordinate the sequence. Call us at (561) 567-0551 and we'll figure out the right path together.
At Ebb Tide, alcohol treatment begins after detox is complete and the acute phase of withdrawal has passed. What comes next is the work most people skip: understanding what drove the drinking, building the skills to handle what it was managing, and establishing the routines that make sobriety sustainable over time — not just for a few weeks.
Our PHP program provides the most structure: daily clinical programming with residential housing included. For clients with more stable home environments, IOP provides intensive support with more flexibility to maintain work and family obligations. Sober living keeps clients accountable and surrounded by peers in recovery. All levels are available, and Medicaid covers qualifying programs.
